Verdict

My reaction to like 75% of this book, which is basically Mean Girls if Regina George was a psycho.

This intensely creepy read lives up to both its title and its cover. Evil takes many forms, and like Sofia, the reader never really knows which of these characters can be trusted. A shocking curveball at the end of the novel makes all the preceding violence and gore mostly worth it, although it is important to mention that this book is EXTREMELY graphic and should be avoided by the weak-stomached and faint of heart. The Merciless reads like a horror flick; it’s essentially Mean Girls-meets-Carrie-meets-The Exorcist. Recommended for horror fans 15 and up (because intense violence and gore)… who won’t mind some freaky nightmares.

You’ve been warned.

The book trailer for The Merciless is definitely creepy and does a good job of capturing the freakiness of the story:
